LadyBears - Finnish National Softball Team
Our journey started with a desire to bring Finnish expertise to the world stage. In 2022, the Finnish Olympic Committee launched an initiative to introduce softball to Finland, and a group of elite pesäpallo players embraced this new challenge. In only a few years, our team has developed to the point where we can compete competitively at the international level. Now, we have set our sights on the LA 2028 Olympics.
The Lady Bears proudly represented Finland at the 2025 European Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, from 7–13 September. Their hard work and determination truly paid off — the team delivered a strong performance, climbing to 18th place from last year’s 21st. This was the biggest ranking jump of any team in the tournament! The Lady Bears are thrilled with their progress and are already gearing up to reach even greater heights at the 2027 Championships.
The Finnish softball team participated in the European Softball Championship in the Netherlands, from 1 to 7 September 2024. The team was formed from a training group of approximately forty players.
The team's long-term goal is to be at the top of Europe and quality for a place in the LA28 Olympic Games. The team's activities are supported by cooperation agreements, the contribution of the Finnish pesäpallo Association and the Olympic Committee's support for enhancing top sports.
The U22 Softball national team participated in the European Under-22 Championship from 5-10 August 2024 in Kutno, Poland. The core of the team is made up of young top pesäpallo players and the team is strengthened by Finnish citizens living in America who actively compete in softball at the High School level. The team trains and camps together with the women's national team. The core of the team is made up of players who participated in the European Under-18 Championship in the summer of 2023.
The LadyBears’ journey began with a leap into the deep end — competing in the Women’s Softball European Championships held in Barcelona, Spain, from July 24–30, 2022. The team’s core consisted of promising young pesäpallo players, strengthened by Finnish athletes living in the United States who actively compete in high school softball. Guiding them were a group of skilled coaches from the U.S.
